3. Ban on genetic modification
GMO-free farming is the only way to ensure the availability of natural raw materials and unaltered food products in the future.
For a product to bear the Prüf Nach! seal, the entire production chain must be GMO-free. Seeds, grains, and feed as well as all ingredients and additives have to be produced without genetic modification. The long-term risks of genetically modified plants have not been adequately researched and alterations are irreversible.
The Austrian Food Code guidelines on GMO-free production apply to the Prüf Nach! seal. On top of that, compliance with the 0.1% limit on detectable GMO (genetically modified organisms) is required. Accredited inspection bodies monitor the level of genetic modification in a certification process.
